There's a lot of options, so play around with the cards you like. (edit: also note that because you are using Yisan's ability to tutor them out, the creatures you pull are uncounterable by normal counterspells!)īecause of Yisan's sequencing, it is also good to include a bunch of different CMC mana ramp creatures, so you might go Joraga Treespeaker into Sakura-Tribe Elder into Yavimaya Elder or Wood Elves. Other good options include Brutalizer Exarch, Eternal Witness, Scavenging Ooze, Terastodon, Woodfall Primus, and more. That way, when Yisan's counters are at 3-6, you can whip out an artifact/enchantment destroyer anytime. For example, I would include the cards Reclamation Sage, Wickerbough Elder, Acidic Slime and/or Indrik Stomphowler, and maybe Bane of Progress. Yisan tends to be a very tool-box commander, so having a variety of high-utility creatures across your mana curve is fantastic. Additionally, Asceticism and/or Archetype of Endurance gives all your creatures Hexproof as well.

Other options include Mask of Avacyn, Champion's Helm, Whispersilk Cloak, Cloak and Dagger (Yisan is a rogue, so Cloak would be a free equip), etc. Definitely throw in things that give him protection like Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves (with the added benefit of Haste). I would try to make the amount of creatures in each CMC the same, decreasing as you get 6+ if only because it's quite hard to keep Yisan on the board for more than a few turns. You can send any elf back to your hand if it's being targeted too.īecause of how Yisan works, you have to be a lot more conscious about the mana-curve of your creatures. Wirewood also doubles as a way to protect an elf if someone plays a boardwipe. Repeat for a pretty good card draw and untapping engine.
On your turn, you can then play Elvish Visionary again to draw another card. From then on, you can tap Yisan to search, untap him by using Wirewood Symbiote to send Elvish Visionary back to your hand, and tap him a second time. A good combo is Wirewood Symbiote as Yisan's first summon, then Elvish Visionary as his second.
